Beginning Monday, August 8, the Athena-based OLSIS service will be unavailable.
The outage might last as long as two weeks, although if things go well, it
should be less than that. I will notify you again when the service is back
on-line.
This outage is required so that the Registrar's systems group, along with the
Facilities Management group in W91, can perform major maintenance to the OLSIS
server. The changes include: an update to the Ultrix OS release, a conversion
in DBMS from Ingres to Oracle, and mods to the server code (in order to access
the Oracle db).
During the outage, all normal IS & DCNS processes that support the OLSIS, e.g.,
Moira updates to OLSIS and "Extra" Kerberos Instance Letters will continue per
normal. Until the service is back on-line, any failures in the Moira UPDATEs to
OLSIS should be reported per normal procedure, but no further action need be
taken.
Anyone trying to access the service during the outage will receive a message
explaining what is going on via a change in the OLSIS "message of the day"
script. Comments and questions regarding this service can be sent to the
Registrar via the mailing list <sis@mit.edu>.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
