Hello,
A user alerted me to the fact that BioSym will not run on some Indys that
have been upgraded to Athena 8.2, specifically machines in W20-575 and
56-129. I verified this myself on four machines chosen at random in
W20: w20-575-65, w20-575-71, w20-575-68 and w20-575-63. This is what happens:
add biosym_root; source /mit/biosym_root/cshrc970
insightII
Initial splash screen comes up, then something like "using GL graphics" in
launch xterm, and then:
Internal Error noticed in function:
'core_trap()'
of module:
'wait_event_new.c'
WARNING: Serious internal error in last command; further behavior
unpredictable.
and it dies. Rebooting does not help. This problem does not show up in N42
machines, and the user reports it works OK in 66-080.
There are similar problems with the other current BioSym release
(400), on the same machines:
add biosym_root; source /mit/biosym_root/cshrc400
insightII
starts the initial splash screen, then launch window prints:

I don't know why the X errors happen, in addition to the other error
message. Again, no problem in N42.
Fixing this should be high priority- BioSym is one of the most heavily used
SGI apps.
