I'm still not completely sure about what happened. When I got here at about 9, hotline (Brian Murphy) wanted to know what was wrong with the release. When I ask what they meant, they said lots of machines were still updating (hundreds in the student center!)
We went over to e51-075. No. 3 was up with someone using it, anda quick
check showed it was running 8.2.8. No. 8 and it No. 17 were claiming hesiod
resolve didn't have information about them. Roughly 11 other machines were
updating.
A check in the e51 cluster at about 11:30 showed that six machines were
still updating.
I've seen the notes in afsadm, and the longer note in rel-eng.(thanks to Ted
for pointing this out to me)
I've provided information to Bill Hogue for the help desks and so forth,
plus I've tried to give the directors enough information so that they don't
feel left out.
however, do we really understand the problem? And what can we do to avoid repeating it?
thanks
Mike
