Meeting #3

daemon@ATHENA.MIT.EDU (Dorothy Bowe)
Wed Mar 2 13:35:06 1994

To: release-77@MIT.EDU
Date: Wed, 02 Mar 94 13:34:28 EST
From: Dorothy Bowe <dot@MIT.EDU>

Weather permitting, our next meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 4th
from 10 - 11:30 AM in E40-382. At this meeting we will continue, and
hopefully finish the list of items to include in release 7.7.

Before I get to the agenda, I have a few observations:

* I think Gary had the right idea when he suggested four levels for the
priority matrix. (Thanks, Gary!) The more I think about it, the less
it makes sense to beat ourselves senseless trying to determine 16 levels
of testabilty, user non-visibility, etc. I would like to stick to the
four levels, but for now leave open the question about equal division
between the levels. (i.e., 4-16's, etc)

* The one piece of information which seems to be missing from this
matrix is *where* the hit is for each proposed item, and in particular,
for the major items like the o.s.'s, X11R5, etc. Development? Testing?
Users? Documentation? It doesn't make sense to have all the top items
hit the developers or need incredibly amounts of testing which we cannot
  possibly supply.

* The output of this matrix will be a ranking of items by relative
importance, not necessarily a priority list for items to actually
include in the release. In other words, once we generate a list,
we need to do a reality check on it before we call it the inclusion
  list.

That makes the agenda for this Friday:
