Durodami forwarded a couple of olc questions regarding compiling
problems with the new cygnus release. I finally tracked down the
particular problem to a difference in Athena releases; 8.1 has
/usr/include/sys/va_list.h while 8.0 does not, and the cygnus release
does not have its own copy. Someone else can probably explain the whys
and wherefores of varargs and this file, but for now it seems that many
programs will not compile with this compiler and Athena 8.0. This
concerns me a little since the dialups are still running 8.0 and I have
no idea how many people compile on the dialups.

Would anyone like to comment on the issue, or is it even an issue? One
quick work-around is to use the older version of the compiler:

	setenv CYGNUS_VERSION 96a3
	add cygnus
	gcc, g++, etc.

Thanks,

		Dot
