Hey, if the President, the Governor, and the Mayor get to deliver "state
of the <foobar>" addresses, why can't release team leaders?

All kidding aside, you are probably wondering what's happening with the
release. As you probably gathered, friendly test did not go out either
last week or this week. The specifics are rather complicated, but I can
sum up the situation by saying we ran into some problems (unforeseen
ones, naturally) with the build, integration, and installation/update
procedures. At this time (Wednesday morning), we have hopes that
friendly test will be ready by tomorrow or Friday for at least the
DECstation and RS/6000 if not for all three platforms. I'm sorry to be
vague, but the situation is still somewhat unclear. I will pass along
any information I have if and when it becomes definite.

In the meantime, we have a meeting scheduled for Monday, June 20 at 1:00
in the small conference room (E40-316). Since the status of the release
is unclear, I'm not certain exactly what the agenda will be, but I
suspect we will either deal with friendly test issues, or start to
consider alternatives to a full release 7.7 in the worst case scenerio
that the release does not happen this summer.

Thank you all for your patience,

		./dot

P.S. On a positive note, Bruce represented the release team at the PPT
meeting last week and presented the issue of kerberized telnet. He
reports that they came up with a very good solution to the problem
and has been working on implementing it. If you're interested in
what the solution was, ask Bruce or your local PPT representative.
