Hi there,
We are in the middle of installing SunOS 4.1.1 on a number of machines
at our site, and we've started to look into whether AFS 3.1 beta will
work with 4.1.1. (Our AFS server is a Sun 4/490, with both sun3 and
sun4c AFS clients.)
Sun advertises that 4.1.1 and 4.1 are binary compatible, EXCEPT for
programs that have requirements (or make assumptions) about internal
kernel structures. Since AFS obviously does involve kernel mods, I'm
not too optimistic that AFS 3.1 beta will work cleanly with SunOS
4.1.1.
Then again, I really don't know that much about the internals of
either SunOS or AFS, so I'm probably not in a good position to judge.
Hence this query to you good folks out there in net land and at
Transarc.
If anyone has gotten AFS 3.1 beta running with SunOS 4.1.1, I'd
appreciate a quick note, along with any words of wisdom that you would
care to share.
Thanks very much.
