I hear that you may be my counter part at MIT. I just wanted to touch
base with you and introduce myself and see if there is a way we can
learn/leverage from each others experience.

Since email has been our big project lately, I will talk about it.

Here is some information about HMS.
=20
1. We are about 60% Windows and 30% Macs and about 10% Linux.
2. We converted to AD almost 2 years ago.
3. We recently converted 6,000 people from Unix Post.Office to
Exchange 2000.
4. We recently converted 1,000 from Meeting Maker to Exchange 2000.
5. We used a company called Sumatra in Cambridge to convert the
Meeting Maker data to Exchange 2000.
6. We have some people forwarding to foreign accounts. In fact, we
have some forwards to the FAS email server.
7. We are able to have foreign addresses in AD and store them as
Contact, people are able to look them up using LDAP or the GAL.
8. We have successfully defended against the MyDoom virus using our
Anti-Spam program (BrightMail) and our Anti-Virus program (Anti-gen).
We are blocking about 43 extension types from coming in to our email
system, including .zip until 2/12/2003.
9. We are currently working on a new Distribution List Server
(Mailing List Server) for Exchange.
I was wondering the following about your system.
1. What is your user OS environment percentages?
2. What type of email system do you use?
3. How many users do you have on your system?
4. What type of technology relationships exist between Harvard UIS
and MIT?
5. Do you use Meeting Maker for Scheduling? =20
6. Do you have AD and/or Exchange 2000?
7. I have recently had someone ask me "If someone at MIT wants to
forward to their HMS account whom do they contact?"
8. How did you handle the latest MyDoom virus?
