Hi Bo,

We will investigate making ffmpeg available on all the cluster machines. In the meantime, you can install it on a cluster machine for the duration of your login session. Instructions for that are available here: http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/UgRS

As for your second bug report, about totem being unable to play MP4 files, you need to install some additional CODECs. The procedure is documented here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats#Ubuntu%2010.04%20LTS,%209.10,%208.04

Alternatively, you can use other media players, such as Xine, mplayer, or VLC.

We hope this information is helpful.
