At Bill's request, I have created a script to fix the "I created a
local user with my Athena username, and now that I've installed
debathena-workstation, I want to log in with my AFS homedir." It
automates some of the process and tries to prevent users from shooting
themselves in the foot. I anticipate it being installed in AFS,
probably the release locker.
Thus, the steps currently at http://athena10.mit.edu/#faq, in the 4th
entry, would change to this:
1) Set a root password for your machine as documented here [link to
stock answer detailing that]
2) Log out of your local account
3) Press Ctrl-Alt-F1, where you should get a tty login prompt.
4) Login as the user "root" with your root password.
5) Run "athrun release fix-local-accounts"
6) If you have not rebooted your workstation since installing Athena
10, please reboot it now. You will not be able to log in with your
Kerberos name and password until the login screen says "Welcome to
Athena 10"
