In an article Truthout published earlier this month, Noam Chomsky warns of how governments are prone to simply accepting major threats to global survival, such as nuclear proliferation and corporate-driven environmental destruction. He asks what our prospects are for rescuing humanity and the planet, and notes that they're rather dim - but that as long as there are still people striving for freedom and justice, we have a fighting chance.
The struggle for survival must be waged - but it can't be waged using the tools of destruction. The dominant media, infested with corporate money and party sponsorships, can't challenge the power structures that are driving this "collective suicide." In fact, they do their best to uphold those structures. But at Truthout, we refuse to rationalize away the forces that are threatening the existence of humanity.
