OSF Announces DME Network Management Option Pricing
options set to encourage widespread adoption

LAS VEGAS, NV May 4, 1994 - The Open Software Foundation
today announced the pricing for the OSF Distributed
Management Environment's (DME) Network Management Option
(NMO). The NMO is the second component of DME. DME Services
were shipped late last year.

DME NMO provides a common, vendor-neutral platform for
developing network management applications that can access
information using standard network management protocols. It
incorporates technology developed by Groupe Bull, Hewlett-
Packard and Siemens Nixdorf Information Systems.

X/Open's Management Protocol (XMP) is provided as a standard,
portable application programming interface (API) to access
industry protocols, such as the Simple Network Management
Protocol (SNMP), and the Common Management Information
Protocol (CMIP) for network management. The NMO technology
can be easily integrated into existing network management
frameworks to provide interoperable and consistent
implementations of XMP, SNMP, and CMIP. NMO is not a
replacement for existing frameworks, but a technology that
can be used to enhance these frameworks.

"Our pricing structure is created to encourage widespread
adoption of the technology by accommodating a variety of
vendors from the largest system suppliers to the small
software vendors," said Peter Shaw, Director of Business
Development at OSF. "The NMO is a key technology that meets a
very real user need for managing distributed environments."

The pricing and packaging for the NMO adheres to the existing
DME Services and Distributed Computing Environment (DCE)
technology pricing models.
