Android.

We have had good luck with most of the newer Android models. We had some p=
roblems with earlier devices (G1, some of Sprint's devices, a couple older =
Motorolas), but most new phones have just required a little tweaking. We su=
pply the customer base with our general settings and then typically refer t=
hem to their carriers (or Google) to setup the specific model. If it's univ=
ersity owned, we just make sure we are recommending models which sync easil=
y with Exchange and support ActiveSync.

I personally use the default mail client on my Incredible and it does all t=
hat I need, but many of our staff are using Nitrodesk's Touchdown. http://=
www.nitrodesk.com/ Folder hierarchy displays nicely and it's very robust in=
its features. It looks to be slightly over the top for the casual user, b=
ut works well.

Subject: Mobile Device Headaches

All,

I honestly have a headache.

It's this big:

(Picture me holding my hands to about the size of a smartphone.)

Some of the things I'm trying to manage:

1) Staying on top of which Android phones actually fully support Excha=
nge synchronization and which require the use of third party applications.

2) Keeping up with NAC registration when students get a new phone from=
their parents every two weeks and the NAC doesn't necessarily recognize th=
e new devices yet.

3) Managing iPads in an enterprise environment when Apple won't give m=
e any real enterprise tools.

4) Figuring out how to help clients from capturing the buzz to actuall=
y leverage Kindles, Nooks, iPads and other mobile devices into being useful=
 parts of their operation.

If you have any ideas, I would love to hear from you.

But.

What would be better than just e-mailing me would be if you could give some=
thought to giving those suggestions or relating your experiences at the St=
udent Technology Conference at the Claremont Colleges this June.

Teaching me things is great! Teaching Southern California is even better! =
Teaching the world while enjoying Southern California? Not sure you can b=
eat that.

Give it some thought, eh?

And then visit http://resnetsymposium.org/rspm/index/ to sign up and submit=
a presentation proposal with what you'd like to share with us. You don't =
have to have your presentation completed and polished, just a brief descrip=
tion will do. You'll have time between now and the conference to make your =
presentation shine.

The deadline for proposals is March 1, 2012 at 5:00pm (Pacific Time).

Nick Corduan
Mobile Device Theme Guide,
Programming Committee STC 2012 (presented by ResNet)

P.S. For descriptions of all seven presentation themes, please visit http:/=
