So, our 6bone site is humming right along.
i've gotten a few folks running NetBSD-current to set up tunnels to
their home networks. i think it's about time to start putting it
under a little stress, and add a few more tunnels..
1) Any of the linux crowd want to look into what's needed to set up a
linux box as a v6 host and as a stub router/tunnel endpoint, write it
up, and send it to me; i'll help you test it out and when we've got it
debugged, i'll send it to this list. I'll send a comparable bit of
documentation for NetBSD..
Pieces you want to look for:
- what software packages and revisions are needed.
- what do you need to do to set up a box as a v6 host using
stateless address autoconfiguration?
- what do you need to do to set up a box as a v6 router, just
using static routes, including:
- configuring subnet addresses on interfaces using
native v6
- configuring the server side of router discovery
- configuring static v6-over-v4 tunnels
- configuring v6 default routes.
2) adding tunnels..
- I will add tunnels for:
- On-campus subnets if you have a machine willing to
act as the other end of a tunnel and carry v6
traffic for the whole subnet.
- Off-campus subnets in the boston area at homes or businesses
with static or pseudo-static addresses (e.g. DSL, cable
modem, leased lines)
- Note that I may request that you renumber at any time; this should
be relatively straightforward if most of your hosts are using
stateless address autoconfig
- if you think you want a tunnel, send me mail.
3) another v6 clue dump.
i'll try to find time to do one of these either in the next
week or two, or early in IAP..
