Good morning all,
I am tasked with the great opportunity chair the Committee for the James N.=
Murphy award and help the team select nominations for this year=92s award.=
I am looking for an undergraduate and graduate student representative to s=
it on this committee. Hopefully you can help me with this!
Below is the description of the award:
The James N. Murphy Award was established in 1967 in memory of James N. Mur=
phy for his immeasurable contribution to community life at the Institute. I=
t is given to a non-faculty employee whose spirit and loyalty exemplify thi=
s kind of inspired and dedicated service, especially with regard to student=
s. James Murphy was also an advisor to APO. Sustained contribution is a cri=
terion for the award, but longevity, in itself, is not. The award is restri=
cted to non-faculty staff who go above and beyond for students this include=
s undergrad and grad advisers as part of the overall group to be considered=
. The committee tends to look for those with years of contribution instead =
of someone whose doing a terrific outreach to students but only for a year =
or two.
The committee will only meet once to discuss nominations (I will send nomin=
ations ahead of time so that all have chance to review). Nominations are du=
e March 27th and ideally we should meet the first week of April. Once every=
one is on board, I can set out a doodle to gather us together to discuss. I=
would really appreciate your help in finding a student representative to s=
it on this committee. Can you please forward once you have a nominee? Thank=
s so much.
