Hi Nichole,

How are you? Hope things are OK. I know the ASA is always understaffed, and
I have been talking to Gabriel about joining. In particular I would be
happy to help in automating processes and creating continuous
infrastructure so that elections each spring are less sad :)

In other news...

We would really like to get Lean On Me @ MIT student group status by the
end of this semester. We applied back in November and it has been really
difficult for our 18-student team to not have room reservation abilities.

I understand that there has been some confusion over how our group
operates, and I just spoke with Jimmy at the MIT I Messed Up event about
how Lean On Me @ MIT is (like Camp Kesem, Design For America, and many
other groups) a completely student-run service helping MIT students only.
The group is self-contained within MIT and literally the definition of a
student group.

Lean On Me, Inc. as a nonprofit corporation builds and distributes software
for local college chapters to use. This is no different than the chess club
using Chess.com to play their games online, dorm governments using Facebook
to create event pages, or the ASA using gmail. All these software providers
are separate from the groups and have no bearing on the actual use or group
activities in which the software is involved.

I understand that you guys are all super busy, so I am truly happy that we
had the opportunity to meet and discuss earlier in the approval process
with Jimmy. Please consider that we have helped over 100 distinct users
through thousands of text messages, and we believe we can continue to do so
far more effectively within the infrastructure of MIT by being a recognized
student group as we rightly deserve to be.

Please let me know how I can help with this decision and also with the ASA.

Godspeed,
Andy
