The economic crisis of 2008 had significant effects on MIT, causing a
reduction in the value of its endowment of as much as $2,000,000,000. In th=
e
spring of 2009, an Institute-wide Planning Task Force was formed, and
charged with making recommendations that would reduce spending from the
General Institute Budget, while maintaining our traditions, values, and
excellence. The task set for the Task Force was and is daunting: to close
the shortfall, the budget will have to be reduced by $100-150M per year. To
reach that goal, many hard decisions will have to be made that will impact
students, faculty, and staff. Come join us for a presentation and discussio=
n
on the recommendations of the Task Force, and where we go from here.

Computer Science, and co-chair of the Education working group; Israel Ruiz,
