<td colspan=3D"2" id=3D"Dusi721">

Tele=
photo lenses have a multitude of uses and can be a great tool in a photogra=
pher's arsenal. To see just how versatile they are, here's 8 top ways you c=
an use a telephoto lens. 1. Bring Far Subjects Close The telephoto effect t=
hese lenses have make objects, that may actually have quite a lot of distan=
ce between them, appear as if they're sat close together. The longer your f=
ocal length, the more obvious the effect will be. It's useful when you have=
a city skyline or mountains in the background which will give you a more i=
nteresting and pleasing shot if they're pulled a little closer to the objec=
t closer to your lens e.g. the bridge, building or boulder that's your main=
point of focus. 2. Fill The Frame When you want to exclude some part of wh=
at's in your frame e.g. a boring grey sky that's in the background of your =
landscape shot, use a telephoto lens to focus in on the colourful tree line=
rather than having the trees and sky in shot. It'll also pull a distant su=
bject closer to you, which means you can get frame-filling shots of shy wil=
dlife or of a particular aspect of the landscape that's too far for you to =
get to. 3. Pick Distant Subjects Out If you want to draw attention to a par=
ticular aspect that would be lost if shot with a wider focal length, use a =
telephoto lens to isolate your subject. You can do this with shorter focal =
lengths, but the longer reach of a telephoto means you can isolate a subjec=
t that's some distance away from where you're shooting from. 4. Capture Sho=
ts Of Wildlife.

As a telephoto lens closes the distance between you =
and whatever you're photographing, it's an ideal lens for photographing wil=
dlife. With a telephoto lens you'll be able to take shots that look like yo=
u were just a few steps away from your subject when really you were some di=
stance away. This distance means your subject won't be scared off and if yo=
u're shooting what could be considered as a dangerous animal, the distance =
makes it safer for you. 5. Photograph The Moon Your shots won't be as good =
as those who use telescopes, but you can still get excellent shots of the m=
oon with a long telephoto lens. As well as a very long lens you also need a=
tripod, clear skies, good weather, remote / cable release, a few hours to =
spare and good technique. 6. Portraits Shooting head or head and shoulder s=
hots with a longer focal length can give a better perspective and allows fo=
r a tighter crop when working further away from your subject. This distance=
also means you don't have to work too close to your subject and as a resul=
t they'll be more comfortable, and you'll have more natural looking portrai=
ts. You'll also be able to capture shots without any distortion and backgro=
unds are more easily thrown out of focus, even when they are just a couple =
of meters behind your subject, meaning all focus falls directly on your sub=
ject. Just keep an eye on your shutter speed if working hand-held, though, =
as you don't want shake spoiling your shot. 7. Shallow Depth Of Field As me=
ntioned above, telephoto lenses make it easier to get the blurry background=
s in photos that isolate your subject and really make them the focus of you=
r shot. You don't want a distracting background detail competing for the vi=
ewer's attention and a shallow depth of field will make sure this doesn't h=
appen. 8. Capture Action For fast paced action that you can't get close to =
e.g. motorsport and flying events, you'll need the longer focal lengths tel=
ephotos give you as most of the time, it'll be impossible to get close to t=
he action. To create a sense of pace, use your telephoto lens to shoot a fe=
w shots where your subject is sharp but the background is nicely thrown out=
of focus. How good you are at panning, what shutter speed you use, how fas=
t your subject is moving and how much light's around will make this task ha=
rder / easier every time you head to the track, but do it a few times and y=
ou'll soon perfect your technique. A telephoto lens is simply a long lens t=
hat magnifies things that are far away.

=20

     <td colspan=3D"2" id=3D"Usu2h">
I often find when I teach my online =
beginning photography class that students confuse the terms â??teleph=
oto lensâ?=9D and â??zoom lens.â?=9D This misconception i=
s likely caused by point-and-shoot cameras that offer a â??10x zoom.&=
acirc;?=9D In this sense, the zoom actually refers to the amount of magnifi=
cation range the lens is capable of (from a wide shot to a tight shot, for =
example), and not the total magnification power of the lens. Zoom lenses ca=
n actually be fairly wide or they can magnify the image greatly. Generally,=
all lenses from 100mm and up are considered telephoto. The longer the lens=
in terms of millimeters, the greater the magnification of the photo. There=
fore, a telephoto lens is the best lens for shooting sports photography, wi=
ldlife, or any other object that is far away or which is small and needs a =
lot of magnification. As I have already done twice in this post, photograph=
ers often use the term â??long lensâ?=9D when they really mean =
â??telephoto lens.â?=9D Although this is common for photographe=
rs to refer to a telephoto lens this way, it is not technically correct. Wh=
ile it is true that longer lenses are generally more telephoto (have greate=
r magnification), it is not always the case. In fact, some telephoto lenses=
are even shorter in size than some wide angle lenses. The only way to trul=
y know how much magnification a lens will produce is to check the focal ran=
ge of the lens by looking for the magnification in millimeters. Again, anyt=
hing over 100mm is considered telephoto.

=20
