<td id=3D"Tsuuy2s">

There was a time w=
hen cable was considered the sole means of getting access to quality televi=
sion programming. Not anymore! The influx of online video and streaming ser=
vices is now threatening the very existence of cable and satellite televisi=
on. Cable loyalists are now finding it increasingly convenient to turn to t=
he internet for their favorite shows. A study carried out indicated that ov=
er 40 of households have subscription to a video streaming service. A simil=
ar survey actually puts this figure at 42. The survey further found out tha=
t around 56 of those surveyed prefer to stream movies. This is against the =
45 who prefer to watch TV programs live. Also, people in the age group 14-2=
5 ranked internet video services higher than television, with a whopping 72=
stating that streaming video was one of the most valuable services. But ol=
der age groups continue to stay faithful to pay channels with 80 of those a=
ged between 32-48 preferring pay channels. Advantages of Cable TV One major=
advantage cable and satellite have compared to over-the-top (OTT) systems =
is the variety and volume of programming. Streaming sites lack new content =
and relay programming that has already premiered on cable channels after a =
significant amount of time. Also, popular sporting events are primarily mad=
e available live on pay channels as this market is often quite expensive an=
d beyond the reach of OTT websites. Of course, big names like Yahoo are ven=
turing into the sports segment but the trend is yet to catch on. Causes for=
Decline in Cable TV Viewers The primary reasons why consumers are distanci=
ng themselves from cable and satellite television are increase in subscript=
ion costs, selective bundling packages, and rising network disputes. This i=
s causing frustration among the consumers who are fuming at cable and satel=
lite TV providers.

=20

=20

=20
     <td id=3D"Eusix7hw2">

As a result, more and more peop=
le are looking for a cost-effective alternative. But decline does not neces=
sarily mean cessation in all forms. Quite a few cable companies in the US a=
nd Europe are seeking to enter into agreements with OTT companies to integr=
ate online programming with cable set-top boxes. Reasons for Video Streamin=
g Popularity The growth of the internet is taking place faster than you can=
blink and is increasingly becoming reliable. The reach of smart TVs and ad=
apters is also on the rise with more and more people choosing these. The fr=
eedom to watch your favorite programs on demand on any device, with the exp=
erience personalized to cater to individual tastes is way too lucrative. Th=
e quality of internet TV apps is frequently updated and improvements take p=
lace at a quicker pace, assuring viewers of an amazing video experience. Th=
e disadvantages of Video Streaming Quality of the videos is what turns out =
to be a letdown as far as streaming is concerned. A majority of streamed vi=
deos are accompanied by issues such as re-buffering, slow video startup, an=
d low resolution pictures. For instance, watching a sporting event on live =
streaming is no fun if the picture freezes and jumps every few seconds. Vie=
wers who faced buffering problems gradually lost interest in continuing to =
watch the videos. Another aspect impacting viewer numbers is the start time=
Delays by even two seconds resulted in viewer abandonment. The presence o=
f a number of variables is one reason why live streaming is a difficult pro=
cess? the different types of devices that people use to watch videos on var=
ying internet speeds, types of modems, the kind of routers, and the like. I=
t's like a game of chance. If you are really lucky, you will have a great v=
iewing experience. Else you might end up feeling extremely frustrated about=
not being able to watch the show you want.

New technology is defini=
tely disruption the cable TV business but the fact remains that delivering =
quality video content over the internet in a reliable manner is not a simpl=
e task. The imminent solution seems to be some type of compromise between O=
TT technology systems, and cable or satellite services to ensure the best o=
f programming services reach consumers every time. With companies such as A=
mazon, Time Warner Cable, and Comcast set to foray into the video streaming=
segment, it is now a wait and watch game. There are so many fantastic alte=
rnatives to cable these days that if you signed up for all them ? you'd be =
paying far more than you do for cable. Since that kind of destroys the poin=
t of cord cutting, Barron's Next did the hard work of sitting through 100 h=
ours of shows to figure out which streaming platforms are worth the price. =
Short answer: Go with Netflix and Hulu, and skip Amazon Prime Video and CBS=
All Access. Throw in HBO Go if you really need your fix of premium. More t=
han 200,000 Americans are ditching cable every month, and it's getting easi=
er and easier to join them. Here's a quick rundown of the streaming alterna=
tives: With the largest TV library of the bunch (3,588 titles as of earlier=
this year, by Barclays' count) Netflix is worth the $10 a month. Its origi=
nal shows are a step above the rest. You don't want to miss Stranger Things=
, a sci-fi thriller, or the upcoming revival of Gilmore Girls, packed with =
much of the original cast plus fancy guest stars. Netflix is weak on the ? =
flix,? but its deep bank of past TV series and seasons make it necessary fo=
r a binge-watcher. Hulu gets you the closest to the cable experience withou=
t a set-top box. You'll get access to new episodes of ABC, NBC, Fox, and ot=
her shows the day after they air, as well as a selection of past episodes t=
hat's smaller than what Netflix offers. It's inconvenient to wait for month=
s after a season ends before being able to watch a show, so the next-day op=
tion keeps you in the conversation. Hulu's original programming is nothing =
special, though it did revive The Mindy Project. Hulu will run you $8 a mon=
th; for an extra $4 a month you'll get the ad-free version.

=20
