ased on the challenges she faces in her daily life.My view of
her was unschooled, but there were many surprises along the way as
I did research, Streep told FoxNews.com at the films New York premiere.
For instance, to find out that she didnt even have a cook
flabbergasted me. How do you have that big job running the United
Kingdom for 11 and a half years and not have someone cook
you dinner? The films director, Phyllida Lloyd, told FoxNews.com that she understood how
touchy the subject matter was, and she offered Thatcher and her children
the opportunity to be the first to screen the film, an offer
they declined.[Thatcher] has been the subject of so much satire; shes been
lampooned and criticized, Lloyd said. So I can understand their anxiety in
putting her on-screen with dementia.Edwina Currie, Junior Health Minister under Thatcher, wrote
that even though the films focus on the former leaders frail health
and old age was at times insensitive and irrelevant, sh

APDec. 24, 2011: U.S. Army 1st Cavalry 3rd Brigade soldiers march onto
the parade grounds upon their return home from deployment in Iraq, at
Fort Hood, Texas.WASHINGTON Americans probably will not be seeing a huge
ticker-tape parade anytime soon for troops returning from Iraq, and it is
not clear if veterans of the nine-year campaign will ever enjoy the
grand, flag-waving, red-white-and-blue homecoming that the nation's fighting men and women received
after World War II and the Gulf War.Officials in New York and
Washington say they would be happy to help stage a big celebration,
but Pentagon officials say they haven't been asked to plan one. Most welcome-homes
have been smaller-scale: hugs from families at military posts across the country,
a somber commemoration by President Obama at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. With
tens of thousands of U.S. troops still fighting a bloody war in
Afghanistan, anything that looks like a big victory celebration could be seen

suit continues that the measure is unnecessary and a waste of taxpayer
money. and notes that state laws already mandate use of condoms when
workers are exposed to blood-borne pathogens. But Ellen Widess, head of the California
Division of Occupational Safety and Health, told the L.A. Times that her
group doesn't "see a bar to the city or the county doing
what they need to do" to enact rules on condom use in
porn, thereby bypassing the need for a referendum. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has
unsuccessfully tried to get the county to enforce condom use before. It
cites records from the county's own Department of Public Health to argue
that adult film industry workers are 10 times more likely to be
infected with a sexually transmitted disease than members of the population at
large, and that some performers can contract four or more separate infections
over the course of a year."In addition, LADPH has stated that as
many as 25 industry-related cases of HIV have be

ReutersDec. 26, 2011: Republican presidential candidate and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum
takes a break from pheasant hunting in Adel, Iowa. With 45 percent of
Iowa Republican voters undecided and a roller-coaster ride about to come to
a screeching stop next Tuesday with the GOP caucuses, it may be
Rick Santorum's turn to take the final ascent and surprise the political
class by ... doing better than expected?Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator, has
been touted as the sleeper candidate by none other than 2008 Iowa
caucuses winner Mike Huckabee. He has relentlessly campaigned in the state, hitting
all 99 counties and moving his family out there. He has held
350 campaign events in the past year.He has received key endorsements from
well-known social conservatives in the state, and has had solid performances at
each of the debates. And he's running an old-school style campaign that
Iowa voters expect in the retail-style politics of the Hawkeye State.T

Iran is threatening to stop the flow of oil through the Strait
of Hormuz a key world oil route in the Persian Gulf
if the West imposes more sanctions over its controversial nuclear energy
program. The sanctions stem from a U.N. watchdog report that alleges the country
may be developing nuclear weapons. Iran has denied the claims, stating that
its program is for peaceful purposes, Reuters reports."If [the West] impose sanctions
on Iran's oil exports, then even one drop of oil cannot flow
from the Strait of Hormuz," Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi
told Iranian news agency IRNA."Our enemies will give up on their plots
against Iran only if we give them a firm and strong lesson,"
he added. In Washington, State Department spokesman Mark Toner called the threat "bluster."
He said it was "another attempt by them to distract attention from
the real issue, which is their continued noncompliance with international nuclear obligations."Rahimi

Ariz., Officer Brad Jones was shot in August after a fight with
a suspect being sought by a probation officer. And the two officers
in South Dakota, James McCandless and Nick Armstrong, were killed in August
after conducting what Rapid City authorities have said was a routine traffic
stop. The glimmer of good news in the report was the falling number
of traffic-related fatalities involving law enforcement officers, the lowest since 2005. Floyd
said revamped policies adopted by some departments on police chases and a
revived focus on road safety helped bring down the number of those
deaths."It's perhaps the most preventable death for law enforcement," he said. "Better
training and better awareness of the dangers of traffic safety will help
to spare more police lives as we move forward."___Follow Bluestein at http://www.twitter.com/bluestein
