e-club member howard austin died tuesday.
family and friends get together friday 7pm.
funeral saturday ... details below ...

all-

i am so very saddened to report the death of long time friend,
personal and e-club advisor, mit alum dr. HOWARD AUSTIN, phd.

howard did his early best work at the ai-lab with professors and
friends marvin minsky and seymour papert, thereafter for many
years on wall street, and later, when he could count among his
numerous clients those of the order-of-magnitude of george soros.

new and younger e-club regulars and students met howard during the
past two years when he was senior vice president of research at
newcogen, where he worked to co-found this new kind of vc firm, a
hard sciences and technology, what-i-liked-to-call, meta-incubator,
with mit professor noubar afeyan.

apropos, i think, of howard's advisories to us in the e-club and
our start-up seminars, his doctoral research at mit included
studying how children teach one-another to juggle.

on a personal note i am sorry i will never again be able to
introduce this unique and very human expert being to new students
and young alum; and howard, i'm sure you know i didn't always
act on your sage advice on so many levels, but i'm re-thinking
always certain of those issues and people in tech entrepreneurship.

the brief if more formal news below was written by mutual and very
good old friend e-club member and advisor jacqueline karaaslanian.

please do send howard's wife and brother and jk cards in sympathy.

thanks all,
