I have heard from various friends to skip the Empire State Building and hit the Top of the Rock as there are far fewer visitors and the 12969577 views through the plate glass are breath taking with great views of Central Park and back to the Empire State. I finally took my visiting family up here one weekend and bought tickets online (recommended) for a 5:30pm admission on a Saturday.

The entry is well organized, and you are bag searched before you make your way through the guided exhibition. We got in very quickly (short lines and minimal waiting!) to the video viewing room. After about 10 minutes of various documentaries, we took the elevator up to the 65th floor to the observation deck. These elevators have a see-through glass roof, making it an attraction 12969577 itself! When the elevator is in motion, you are welcomed to the Top Of the Rock through a voice recording and the elevator shaft lights up. What a way to kick start the experience with a bang!

First you come at a lower observation 7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee deck that is surrounded by panels of non-reflective safety glass. It provides an excellent view of the Chrysler, Empire State Building, and Central Park (which is something you won't see at the Empire State). The views were perfect - I went to all three levels and saw different perspectives.

The higher levels have no safety glass - more exposed so it is ideal for taking photos. We watched the sunset- beautiful. You 12969577 can see all of Manhattan North and South, East and West. I highly recommend going near dusk to see the city in three different ways: daylight, dusk as the lights of NYC are coming on and at nighttime with view of the city lights! Absolutely stunning! Well worth a visit.

I do wish there were more guides at the top to tell you fun facts and what to look for. You ride the elevator to the top and get dropped off, and you are on your own to look at everything. However, you are able to buy a brochure for a couple of dollars that tells you which buildings you are seeing when you're at the top.7ea99ed1b6714702bd5343b786c98bee
