Executive Summary: There will be a blood drive at MIT from Monday,
February 12, through Thursday, February 15, in La Sala in the Student
Center. The drive will run from noon to 6pm on Monday, through
Wednesday, and from 8am to 8pm on Thursday. Please use
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/ to make an appointment for faster
service. All donors will receive a free "Blood Battle with Caltech"
t-shirt (see below for details). Please wear an existing blood drive
t-shirt on Monday 2/12 to help raise publicity about the Blood Battle
All donors will receive free pizza too.

Hello,

Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made our December
drive a success. We collected 223 pints of blood. On behalf of the
Red Cross, thank you for saving lives.

The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT from Monday,
February 12 through Thursday, February 15, in La Sala in the Student
Center (W20). The drive will run from noon to 6pm on Monday through
Wednesday, and from 8am to 8pm on Thursday. By giving blood, or
volunteering your time at the blood drive, you can help save lives.

Two years ago they tried to take our pre-frosh.
Last year we took their cannon.
This year we're both out for blood.

We are initiating what we hope to be an annual Blood Battle with
Caltech. The winner will be the school to collect the most pints of
blood at their February drive (adjusted for size of the school). More
details will be appearing on our web site in the coming weeks. In
order to help raise publicity, we are asking that everyone with a
Blood Drive t-shirt from a previous drive please wear it on the first
day of our February Drive, 2/12. All donors at the February drive
will receive a Blood Battle t-shirt, and be fed free pizza.

The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:

	http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.

We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're welcome to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.

Blood Donation Factoids:

  * Meat, fish, sunflower seeds, and dark-green leafy vegetables are
all high in iron, and can be eaten on a regular basis to raise
    your blood-iron level.

  * 1390 units of blood were successfully collected from Red Cross
sponsored Blood Drives at MIT in 2006.
