Make an appointment (for faster service): http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/

The Red Cross is offering an opportunity to complete the reading and
health questionnaire from the comfort of your home or office, which is
supposed to save you around 15 minutes at the drive itself. To do this,
visit http://www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass, but be aware of several
caveats: 1) this *must* be done the same day as your donation 2) You
will need to be able to show a copy of your form (either emailed to
yourself, or printed) at the drive 3) MIT's drives are located in zip
code 02139 Beginning in September, it will be possible to complete the
RapidPass process using a mobile device, such as your phone.

Hello,

Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made the extra effort
to donate at our April drive. Each one of you may have helped as many
as three people with your donation.

MIT's September blood drive will be split over two weeks. It will be
Tuesday 9/12 through Thursday 9/14 and Monday 9/18 through Tuesday 9/19.
As usual, the drive will be held in La Sala in the Student Center. The
drive will run from 1pm to 6pm every day except Wednesday, when it will
run from 8am to 1pm.

Please use http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/ to make an appointment
for faster service.

While while many MIT donors, and thousands of others responded to the
emergency call for blood and platelet donations issued by the American
Red Cross in early July, there continues to be an urgent need for
blood. Blood donors of all blood types are needed to give now and help
save patient lives.

Please make sure to let new members of your department, lab, center,
dorm, or FSILG about the drive, and encourage them to come donate with
you, or to sign up for our mailing list.

Beginning in September, RapidPass will be available on mobile devices too!

The Red Cross is offering an opportunity to complete the reading and
health questionnaire from the comfort of your home or office, which is
supposed to save you around 15 minutes at the drive itself. To do this,
visit http://www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass, but be aware of several
caveats: 1) this *must* be done the same day as your donation 2) You will
need to be able to show a copy of your form (either emailed to yourself,
or printed) at the drive 3) MIT's drives are located in zip code 02139

The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To make
an appointment, fill out the form at:

	http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.

We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.

Blood Donation Factoids:

  * Be sure to eat! Don't skip breakfast or lunch on the day of your
blood donation. Your body will need extra energy to donate a pint
of blood. You will also feel better after donating if you have
eaten a meal a few hours before.

  * A heart transplant patient, on average, will need four to six
    units of red blood cells.
