I just wanted to remind everyone that there's a blood drive going on at
MIT Monday through Thursday of this week.Right now it looks like
Wednesday will be especially quiet, so if you're thinking about making
an appointment, that's currently a good choice.

Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who took the time to
donate or volunteer at our July drive.
There will be a blood drive at MIT from Monday 9/21 through Thursday
9/24, in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive will run from 1pm to
6pm every day except Tuesday when it will run from 8am - 1pm.

Welcome back to everyone who is returing to campus after the summer.
Please help us find new donors to replace the ones who graduated and
moved away. Please encourage your friends to come with you to the drive
to donate. Or encourage your enemies to come with you just to watch
them bleed. :-) Or encourage people walking down the infinite corridor,
because you can.
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To make
an appointment, fill out the form at:

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Be sure to eat! Don't skip breakfast or lunch on the day of your
blood donation. Your body will need extra energy to donate a pint
of blood. You will also feel better after donating if you have
eaten a meal a few hours before.
* One unit of blood can be separated into components (red cells,
platelets and plasma) and used to treat up to three patients.
