I wanted to remind everyone about this week's blood drive at MIT. I
also wanted to let everyone know that due to the weather and resulting
canceled drives and travel related problems over the last month, the
American Red Cross has missed expected collections for over 15,000 units
of blood in Massachusetts. Please help make up the difference by coming
in to donate this week.
We are still looking for volunteers to help out that the drive. If you

Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who took the time to
donate or volunteer at our May drive.
There will be a blood drive at MIT from Monday 2/23 through Friday 2/27,
in La Sala in the Student Center. The drive will run from 1pm to 6pm
every day except Tuesday when it will run from 8am - 1pm. Please use
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/ to make an appointment for faster
service.
Please note that will all of the snow Boston (and the rest of New
England) has had, many drives have been canceled, and many donations
have been left uncollected. It's important that we try to make up the
difference.
The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To make
an appointment, fill out the form at:

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* No strenuous exercise before or after donating. If you exercise
before donating, be sure to drink even more fluids to replace what you
lost during your work out.
* When you come in to donate (of course you're coming, right?) please
consider bringing a friend along. Word of mouth is one of the best
ways to get new donors, and we need them.
