[tl;dr: Let me know if you think you might want to go to Nationals.
Particularly let me know if you expect airfare costs to impose an undue
financial burden.]

Hi folks,

The National Convention this December is sooner than you think! While we
won't need a commitment for a while yet, I wanted to send out feelers for
interest, as well as a query for those who want to go but might find it
financially infeasible to schlep themselves all the way to California.

*So:* If you want to come to the National Convention, even "maybe", reply
and let me know! It's a lot of fun: somewhere in the vicinity of 2,000 APO
brothers, tons of workshops, every LEADS course except Serve, two excellent
banquets, legislative sessions regarding changes to the national bylaws and
policies, and more. Nationals occurs every two years, and this year's is in
Anaheim, California (very near Disneyland), from the evening of December 27
through the evening of December 30.

Costs for the convention include airfare from wherever you are for the
winter to Los Angeles, hotel room ($25+tax/person/night with quad
occupancy), and registration and banquets (somewhere in the vicinity of
$150/person total). The chapter has a layaway fund of $1600 to put toward
defraying the cost of the conference; we'll vote as a chapter on how this
is to be used in the fall.

In addition to the layaway fund, we have a donation of a good chunk of
frequent flyer miles, which will be sufficient to cover airfare for
somewhere between 1 and 3 brothers, depending on availability. The name of
the game for award tickets over the holidays is "book really, really
early", so I'm worried that waiting until the fall will mean we can
accommodate fewer people. Luckily for us, award tickets are also wholly
refundable.

*So:* If you're serious about wanting to come to Nationals, and the cost of
airfare would represent a significant obstacle to your attendance, please
send me an email explaining your situation, and we'll see what we can do.

Any arrangements made over the summer will, of course, be subject to
approval by vote of the chapter in the fall. Please let me know if you have
any concerns, procedural or otherwise.

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing a bunch of you in Anaheim this winter!

Yours in Leading Friends to SoCal,
Josh
