Many (too many) years ago when the KLBC was in its heyday, I was serving as
one of the list administrators. In order to make the KLBC and the process
used to select someone for the rotating post of Beginner's Grammarian as
fair and transparent as possible we wrote up a selection process and shared
it to the community, encouraging interested parties to volunteer. I would
facilitate the selection process and at the conclusion, announce to the
list the new BG. In gracious deference to protocol and nostalgia, even
though I am no longer a list administrator (and in fact, am so seldom
active on the list that many people may not even recognize me anymore), Qes
'utlh has invited me to introduce our new BG, 'arHa'.

Congratulations 'arHa'!

Several list members expressed interest and were considered. All were
excellent candidates, and each would have done well, but in the end only
one can be selected. It is my hope that the restarting of the KLBC catches
on, and when next we pass the torch, those not selected this time reapply.
We thank everyone for their interest and willingness to contribute through
their service!

As a reminder, the KLBC is meant to provide a forum within the mailing list
for someone who is learning Klingon to post and receive direct, supportive
feedback and instruction from a skilled speaker dedicated to helping
beginners, without a deluge of (often confusing or contradictory) advice,
sparking off heated discussions of how they got something wrong, or complex
responses in Klingon well above the beginner's level. The rules are
simple: 1) to participate, start your e-mail's subject with "KLBC: "; this
will get the BG's attention and is a formal request for the message to be
treated under the framework of the KLBC; and 2) list members are asked to
refrain from commenting on the grammar of the post until the BG has
responded first (though anyone can reply to the content, in Klingon). Once
the BG has responded, others are invited to comment as well. This is not
to discourage anyone's participation or contribution, but rather to provide
a more inviting, less intimidating atmosphere for a beginner who might
otherwise not be comfortable putting their efforts out there.

At this point I have two requests:

1) If you are a relative beginner with the language who might like to take
advantage of the protocols of the KLBC, even if you've been on the list for
a while, take a few minutes to write a post to the KLBC, in Klingon. It
can be about anything, but if you're looking for ideas, start with a simple
introduction. Tell us your name, where you live, how old you are, anything
that will start a conversation and allow you to practice your Klingon.

2) 'arHa', as the new BG, please take this opportunity to tell us a little
about yourself as well, your interest in Klingon and how you view the
restarting of the KLBC. You will shortly become one of the most prolific
posters to the mailing list! I know you have been here for several years,
and I know you used to hold a semi-regular qepHom; do you still do this?
Curious Klingons want to know. :)

And finally, I would like to thank QeS 'utlh for undertaking the restarting
of the KLBC after all this time, for his excellent approach to seeking
input on the process, reaching out to the list membership, reviewing
candidates and making what I am sure will be an excellent selection. A
mighty {qatlho'} to you sir!

Again, congratulations 'arHa'! Let the conversations begin!
