Subject: Shareware: txt2pdf 6.0
Date: 19 Sep 2002 15:50:01 GMT

Most of your documents are text files. Usually, your reports from legacy
applications, DBs, ERP applications and datawarehouse are textual.
txt2pdf allows you to take those old text files and turn them into PDF's
using only PERL, which means you don't even need to pass the data
through PostScript first.

You can run txt2pdf on any system that runs PERL, but it has been tested
and is verified to work on many operating systems.
etxt2pdf is the executable version of txt2pdf. It's been specially
compiled for those users who simply can't or don't want to run PERL on
their systems. It has all the functionality of the original perl
version, and is merely distributed in binary form for your convenience.
We currently have 5 executable versions: Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX,
HP-UX, Mac OS X.
If you're interested in a binary for another operating system, such as
FreeBSD please let us know, and we'll send you one. With enough
requests, we'll also add one here permanently. Please note that the
Windows version comes with an extra tool known as Visual txt2pdf.

Here are some of the things that you can achieve with txt2pdf:
You can mark coloured (using PERL regular expressions) phrases in the
produced PDF files.
You can mark bold, italic and bold italic phrases in the produced
PDFfiles.
You can add page numbers on every page.
You can add text at the beginning and at the end of every file.
You can add a border to every page.
Internet specific phrases such as http://... ftp://...
mailto:...file:... ldap:... news:... will automatically be made into
clickable URL's.
You can create a link to a specific age within a PDF document by simply
adding http://...pdfdocument#pdfmark
Every word like MIME:... will automatically become a link that will
launch the correct application to open that file.
You can use background and foreground layers.
All predefined encodings (WinAnsiEncoding, MacRomanEncoding,
MacExpertEncoding, PDFDocEncoding) supported by the PDF format and the
Unix default are supported by txt2pdf.
It's possible to rerun txt2pdf infinitely (every configured second,
sleep feature) on a specific directory (and also it's recursive
directories) moving the produced PDF to a specific directory, and the
original text to a specific directory.
txt2pdf supports STDIN and STDOUT.
Support for Japanese fonts (HeiseiMin-W3-90ms-RKSJ-H and
HeiseiKakuGo-W5-90ms-RKSJ-H) and Japanese paper formats (JISB4 and
JISB5).
EPD 1.0 support. You can use EPD inside the background layer.
A Personal Edition License is ONLY $39.
SANFACE Software is going to give you a free license for every good idea
or good modify to txt2pdf.

txt2pdf is shareware
The txt2pdf source code is our company core business.
We trust you.
You can test text2pdf and modify it.
You can't use a modify version of txt2pdf for production purpose. You
can't resell txt2pdf or a modify version of it without SANFACE Software
authorization.
You can't copy part of it to include in your source without SANFACE
Software authorization.

What's new in this version

Support for HeiseiMin-W3-90ms-RKSJ-H and HeiseiKakuGo-W5-90ms-RKSJ-H
Japanese fonts
Support for JISB4 and JISB5 Japanese paper formats.
You can select in txt2pdf.cfg one of the 16 supported fonts.
You can use one of the 16 supported fonts with fontmark.
HTML 4.01 validated documentation.

Test txt2pdf 6.0!
You can find it at http://www.sanface.com/txt2pdf.html
Don't forget txt2pdf 5.x PRO at

Subject: Squidalyser v1.0a: Call for translators

Squidalyser is a squid traffic analyser, designed to allow per-user
scrutiny and analysis of squid logfiles. The program allows a
non-technical user to extract information about web usage patterns, the
type of information downloaded, the sites visited by users, the graphics
downloaded, and the amount of information (per-byte or per-file) accessed.
The program runs from a Unix system via a web browser.

The latest version of squidalyser is v1.0a, which includes prototype
support for languages other than English. So far, the messages used by the
program have been translated into Brazilian Portuguese. If you have the
necessary language skills and a couple of hours to spare, please volunteer
to translate this GPL program into your own language. For an online demo,
visit http://ababa.org/cgi/squidalyser.pl. Click on the "Languages" tab to
see the interface used to enter the program messages (but note this demo
*won't* allow you to enter information).

Email "squidalyser@ababa.org" to volunteer. TIA.

Subject: FreeTDS 0.60 improves compatibility with SQL Server 2000, revamps bcp.
Date: 19 Sep 2002 15:50:15 GMT

With unbounded pride and pleasure, the developers, contributors, and other
partcipants of the FreeTDS project announce the arrival and delivery of
FreeTDS 0.60.

FreeTDS is an open source implementation of the TDS (Tabular Data Stream)
protocol used by Sybase and Microsoft SQL Servers. It supports many
different flavors of the protocol and supports several APIs to access it,
including an ODBC driver.

FreeTDS works with other software including Perl, PHP, Python, and SybSQL,
providing them access as well. It is frequently deployed in web
environments as a vehicle to manage text and image data.

The FreeTDS C libraries are available under the terms of the Gnu LGPL
license.

The FreeTDS project has seen quite a lot of activity lately and attracted
several new developers (perhaps not in that order). On occasion in recent
months it has been ranked above the 95th percentile in activity, according
to SourceForge statistics.

With release 0.60, FreeTDS boasts:

* Much improved support for Microsoft servers, including SQL Server 2000
   datatypes and domain logins.

* Support and convertibility of all major datatypes.

* Much expanded coverage of the ODBC API.

* An all-new BCP implementation, including host variable support.

* Character set conversions, via the iconv library.

*  Threadsafe operation.

The FreeTDS corner of the world wide web is www.freetds.org. There you
will find links to documentation, downloads, CVS access, as well as
instructions for joining the mailing list.

FreeTDS can be downloaded from ibiblio and its mirrors, and from
SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/freetds/)

From: Robin McElroy <robin.mcelroy@quik-j.com>
Subject: Commercial: Ace Operator for Linux - web-based call-center solution
Date: 19 Sep 2002 15:50:19 GMT
Reply-To: Robin McElroy <robin.mcelroy@quik-j.com>

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

QUIK Computing, Inc. announces the first public release of Ace
      Operator

September 2,2002
Raleigh, NC

QUIK Computing is pleased to announce the first public release of its
flagship product - Ace Operator. Ace Operator is an instant messaging
call center solution that can be accessed from web pages. Using Ace
Operator, online service providers can easily add a "live help" button
to any or all of their web pages. By simply clicking on the "live help"
button, online customers can get access to company representatives and
exchange information in real-time. Ace Operator is ideal for online
entities such as online stores that need to provide interactive help to
their customers. It is also suitable for customer support centers and
online training centers.

Ace Operator works like a conventional telephone-based call center
solution. Instead of using the phone system and voice for communication
between company representatives and customers, Ace Operator uses the
Internet and instant messaging. It supports all the standard features of
an operator services system including call queuing, skills-based
grouping and routing, call transfers and conferencing. It has several
advantages over a conventional call-center solution, namely:

   1. The system can be operational at a fraction of the cost of
      conventional call centers.
   2. The system allows company representatives to connect to the system
from anywhere - from home, from another state and even from
      another country.
   3. In addition to exchanging real-time messages, company
representatives can push informational web pages, pictures and
other media to customers. Representatives can even send predefined
forms to customers that the customer can fill in and return online.

For more information on the product features, visit: http://www.quik-j.com.

The product can be installed within minutes using an easy-to-use
graphical installer that is suitable for users with very little
knowledge of computers. The package bundles all the necessary software
components required to run the service and comes with a comprehensive
user manual. The product is currently supported on systems running
Linux, Windows and Solaris.

"Ace Operator is not the only product that is available in this arena.
However, Ace Operator is the only product that can get a business up and
running with a feature-rich call center solution at such an inexpensive
price," said Steve Lawrence, Product Manager for QUIK Computing. The
software can run on an inexpensive computer and requires a relatively
low bandwidth Internet connection. It can even be set up to run from
homes having a simple broadband connection like xDSL or cable modem.
"QUIK Computing is also the only company that provides customization of
the Ace Operator product to suit a company's specific needs because no
two call centers have the same requirements. We will even license the
source code for Ace Operator if necessary," said Steve Lawrence.

A FREE version of the software can be downloaded from the QUIK Computing
web site. It allows up to 2 company representatives to chat with online
customers simultaneously. For sites requiring additional
representatives, additional licenses can be purchased from the QUIK
Computing web site. Pricing information is available from the web site.
The current downloadable version is a beta version. It runs reliably but
has a few minor bugs that are being corrected. It is expected to become
production quality software by October 15, 2002.

About QUIK Computing:

extensive experience working for leading software companies. Every QUIK

Announcing: Multi Gnome Terminal 1.6.1

About:

Multi Gnome Terminal is an enhanced version of gnome-terminal,
with many powerful new features and extensions. The most notable
enhancement is the ability to run multiple terminals within the
same window. Each terminal may be accessed by it's "Tab", through
keyboard shortcuts, or menu selections. Non-active terminals alert
that the buffer has changed, or is changing, with color changes on
the Tab labels. Other enhancements: toolbar; buttonbar; flexible
Command options to launch new terminals, tabs and shells from
either the GUI or command line; highly customizable key bindings
for MGT functions and other uses; shading and tinting; greatly
improved Class handling (aka 'profiles'); font shadowing; the
ability to "split" terminals so that each Window can have multiple
terminals; terminals may be "viewed" or "bonded" with other
terminals; and various other improvements.

This is a bug fix release only.

Bugs fixed:

* MGT crashed if one launched it without any config file
* MGT crashed at startup doing:
  > multi-gnome-terminal --wclass foo where foo is non-existing
  Window class.

ToDo:

* GNOME2 support (next major release probably, currently only
  GNOME 1.x is supported)
* Anti-aliasing support (sometime)

Subject: Squidalyser v1.0a

Squidalyser is a squid traffic analyser, designed to allow per-user
scrutiny and analysis of squid logfiles. The program allows a
non-technical user to extract information about web usage patterns, the
type of information downloaded, the sites visited by users, the graphics
downloaded, and the amount of information (per-byte or per-file) accessed.
The program runs from a Unix system via a web browser.

The current alpha-but-stable version of squidalyser is now available for
download from http://ababa.org/. The program now has support for other
languages (ie non-English), a completely revised modular design, web-based
configuration and a simplified installation procedure. A mailing list has
been created at http://ababa.org/mailman/listinfo/squidalist. Please
download, test and submit bug reports and suggestions for improvement.

Squidalyser is released under the GPL of the FSF.
