Hi,

p2z is a Perl tool that converts Palm Memo, ToDo, addressbook and
datebook data to the Zaurus builtin application. It needs
Perl and opie-sh. Get it at http://mobilix.org/p2z.html

Changes:
- eliminated trailing '.' in numbered sections
- minor markup errors corrected
- reworked CSS file

Subject: MobiliX: Linux on Laptops Manufacturer Report Card updated
Date: 28 Aug 2002 02:45:08 GMT
Reply-To: Werner Heuser <wehe@mobilix.org>

The MobiliX survey of laptop manufacturers and their Linux status
(http://mobilix.org/laptop_manufacturer.html) was updated. It contains
a list of more than 100 manufacturers and their Linux support.
Unfortunately even in this times of Linux success, support by laptop
manufacturers is seldom, or if provided not much helpful. Though the
marketing departments of some major manufacturers have announced Linux
support for their laptops, it wasn't developed or silently dropped.
Because of the rapid development (every manufacturer creates new
models almost every three months) and the specific hardware of
mobile computer devices (see Linux Mobile Guide - LMG), it's important
to have current and reliable information about their
Linux compatibility. The update contains corrections of URLs,
addition of manufacturers and pointers to Linux on Laptops
(http://www.linux-laptop.net/), where appropriate as well as a
survey of OEM manufacturer relations between different brand names.

Subject: Do J2EE apps with IBM's WebSphere Studio Application Developer for Linux v4.0.3
Date: 28 Aug 2002 02:45:11 GMT

Here's a good opportunity to test the new release of the IBM WebSphere
Studio Application Developer for Linux Version 4.0.3 (WSAD). New
tutorials are now available covering how to develop, test, run, and
debug a complete J2EE application. The application includes entity and
session EJBs, a servlet, a JSP page, and an HTML home page, and the
tutorial focuses extensively on EJB development. First, you'll have to
register once(a quick 30 seconds max) for it all. Part 1 shows you how
to use WSAD to develop the J2EE application, while Part 2 shows you
how to deploy and test the application on WSAD for Linux.

Subject: Guarded Installation Tool 2.14
Date: 28 Aug 2002 02:45:15 GMT

I am glad to be able to announce version 2.14 of "Guarded Installation
Tool", which can be freely downloaded from

     http://home.wtal.de/ib/freisoft

It is a bash script which allows monitoring the installation of new
software by watching the directory tree, reporting any changes and
creating de-installation scripts. Some useful functions for handling
these scripts are included.

"Guarded Installation Tool" is particularly dedicated for people who
prefer translating and installing sources by themselves instead of using
prefabricated distributions or packet managers.

It is primarily meant for use on individual computers or on servers
running in single user mode.

Hi,

version 0.2 of the low-level expert system (which can be used as knowledge
base or faq-manager, too) is released.
The facts:

- kh2 is released under the conditions of the GPL
- it now includes printing feature, xml export, admin interface
(add, modify, delete) entries and a more modern layout.

Feedback would be appreciated.

Hi,

Linuxclass.de provides 2 tutorials for php scripting
(in german language only). The first one describes PDF generation
with htmldoc, the second deals with timer functions and how you
could use them to generate dynamical selections.

A Link to The Linux Cookbook Tips and Techniques for Everyday Use

Feedback would be appreciated ;)

From: hdholm@epoch.ncsc.mil (Howard Holm)
Subject: SECURITY: NSA Security-enhanced Linux updated
Date: 28 Aug 2002 02:45:39 GMT

The SELinux web site <http://www.nsa.gov/selinux/> including the mail
list archive has been updated. The site includes a new release of the
LSM-based SELinux prototype. The base kernel versions were updated to
2.4.19 and 2.5.31. The SELinux peer SID functionality was
re-implemented with new sock hooks; the accept_secure call should now
be reliable. The sysctl hook and /proc/sys labeling were made
configurable. Other minor enhancements were made including checkpolicy
and the example policy. Bugs were fixed in auditing logic, PSID
mapping code, and ipc permission hook.

Security-enhanced Linux incorporates a strong, flexible mandatory
access control architecture into the major subsystems of the Linux
kernel. The system provides a mechanism to enforce the separation of
information based on confidentiality and integrity requirements. This
allows threats of tampering and bypassing of application security
mechanisms to be addressed and enables the confinement of damage that
can be caused by malicious or flawed applications. The SELinux web
site <http://www.nsa.gov/selinux/> contains background information,
documentation, source code, and archives for the selinux mailing-list.
