Title: mx12p

Description: User interface (control panel) and programming libraries for
the Adimec MX12P camera and PSU120 power supply/interface.
The user interface is Tk-based (a pre-compiled wish binary

included) and can be used to set up the camera. The
programming libraries are ports of Adimec's Windows
libraries; the PSU120 library handles communication with
the hardware and the MX12P library provides a high-level
interface for setting various camera parameters.

I sincerely hope that this (fourth!) URL will be permanent.

The new URL is:
http://www.linuxdj.com/audio/quality/

The Audio Quality HOWTO is a long document describing every way I
know of to improve the audio quality of a Linux system, from
software tricks to physical studio setup, including notes on
supported hardware, both cheap and expensive.

If your site has a link to the AQHT, please update it!

Thanks to Benno Senoner for providing the space.

Listing kernel compile-time configuration via /proc/config
     ==========================================================

/proc/config patch (update) for kernel 2.4.0-test1

     Proconfig 0.9.5 (Kernel 2.4.0-test1)

     Modified original announcement:
     --------------------------------

I've released a comprehensive patch to support listing the kernel
compilation options via /proc/config. It's at the addresses below.
This makes kernel image administration easy if you compile a lot of
kernels or admin a lot of machines, as I do. I do believe this is
     the definitive version. Try

          echo -n 2 > /proc/config # turn it on
          echo -n 0 > /proc/config # turn it off
          echo -n 1 > /proc/config # turn it "half-on"
          cat /proc/config # list it
          CONFIG_M586=y
          CONFIG_X86_WP_WORKS_OK=y
          CONFIG_X86_INVLPG=y
          ...

The patch configures by default as a tiny kernel rump of 3-5K, plus
a magic module that's now loaded and unloaded automatically when
the internal signatures are first translated to variable names for
     display (self-erasing code = cute).

The patch integrates with the kernel Makefiles, so it shows up
conveniently under make menuconfig and friends.

     Changes

0.9.5 - Adapted patch for kernel 2.4.0-test1. Fixed tgz omission.

     0.9.4 - Self-loading and -removing config_data.
Thanks to Rogier Wolfe and Tigran Aivazian for
help in simulating syscall from userspace within kernel.
Use echo -n "2" now for fully on, "1" for half on. Moved
               to kernel 2.2.15.

0.9.3 - following discussions with Michael Chastain
now force scripts/kconfig.tk to be built and then
scan it. Thanks to Werner Almesberger for helpful
notes too. This approach is comprehensive.

     0.9.2 - added on/off switch via echo -n "0" >/proc/config
(security and saves about 1K temporarily while off).
integrated CONFIG_* search with kernel mkdep.c

0.9.1 - minor cosmetic buglet fixed.
replaced shell scripts by C programs.
               unified 2.3.44 and 2.2.13 config.c code
issued initial patch (0.9) for 2.3.44

     Download: ftp://oboe.it.uc3m.es/pub/Programs/proconfig-0.9.5.tgz
     Homepage: http://www.it.uc3m.es/~ptb/proconfig/

I've been running two series of patches - 0.8.* for 2.2.* kernels
and 0.9.* for 2.3.* kernels. Now 2.4.0-test1 has arrived and boots
on my machine I'll be treating 0.9.* as stable and current instead.

From: russell.marks@spam^H^H^H^Hntlworld.com (Russell Marks)
Subject: zgv 5.1 - svgalib picture viewer with thumbnail-based file selector
Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 19:15:27 GMT
Reply-To: russell.marks@ntlworld.com

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

zgv is an svgalib picture viewer with a thumbnail-based file selector.
Most file formats are supported, and the thumbnails used are
compatible with xv, xzgv, and the Gimp. It can also be used with `zgv
file(s)', to effectively bypass the file selector.

zgv's homepage is here:

  http://www.svgalib.org/rus/zgv/

You can also, as ever, download it from Metalab:

  ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/apps/graphics/viewers/svga/zgv-5.1.tar.gz

The main additions in 5.1 are a couple of handy mode-switching
features (which, given the "handy" bit, obviously weren't my idea :-))
and optional xzgv-like keys. There's also a new file covering security
matters.

Here's the changes relative to the previous version (from NEWS):

** New features

You can now switch to a smaller/bigger (lower/higher-res) video mode
in the viewer by using `[' and `]' respectively. Thanks to Michal Svec
for this idea. I'd wanted a saner way to select modes for some time
now, and this approach seems to have been sufficiently obvious that it
never occurred to me. :-)

Added auto-mode-fit mode (enabled by shift-z in viewer, or
`automodefit on' in config file, but disabled by default) which, if
enabled, chooses the `smallest' mode in which the picture can be shown
in its entirety. A bit like zoom mode, but using video modes to do the
work. Thanks to Michal Svec for suggesting this, too. I feel duty
bound to point out that all the mode-switching can be a bit hard on
your monitor, so even if you really like this idea you might not want
to enable it all the time. Still, it's up to you.

Added an `xzgvkeys' mode which changes some keys to match xzgv, as
while xzgv has similar keys to zgv some of them differ - in
particular, the tagging keys in the selector, and the
previous/next/tag-then-next keys in the viewer.

** Bugfixes

Three buffer overrun fixes. See the new `SECURITY' file if you think
this is the end of the world.

Fixed typo which meant that, if you started up in a non-640x480
selector with the mouse enabled, the pointer still started at
(320,240).

File rename used to theoretically allow renaming to `./foo', but
screwed up the test. Made it just refuse anything with `/' in,
formalising the bug. :-)

A couple of corrections to the docs.

** Other changes

A new file `SECURITY' discussing security issues.

Now installs info file/man page in /usr/share/{info,man/man1} by
default, but this is easily changed back to `traditional' locations
(by commenting out the SHARE_INFIX line in the Makefile). Note also
that the binary distribution still uses the old locations by default,
to try and avoid problems.

Now supports raw 16-bit PNMs, as added in netpbm 9.0. Thanks to Bryan
Henderson for pointing out this format.

Added `uninstall' target to Makefile.

Subject: CMUbik 0.0.2 - Lightweight distributed database library
Date: Thu, 8 Jun 2000 19:20:17 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

I am pleased to announce the first public release of CMUbik. CMUbik is
a library for mantaining a syncronized berkeley database over multiple
hosts. It has good failure semantics and strong authentication
provided by the Cyrus SASL library. It's API is very similar to that
of Berkeley DB allowing existing applications to port to use it very
easily.
