AIS Offers New Spreadsheet for Linux
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- May 12, 1995-- Applied Information Systems
today announced XessLite, a new spreadsheet for the Linux desktop.
The XessLite spreadsheet provides powerful computational and charting
facilities packaged specifically for the personal computing user with
Linux. Orders are being taken now for the $295 product with volume
shipments beginning in early June.
XessLite is a native X Windows application on Linux with the Motif look and
feel. It provides advanced power by augmenting the standard spreadsheet
operations with functions for matrix operations, Fourier transforms,
multiple regressions, linear equation solving, and advanced statistics.
Users can build basic graphs with a single selection and mouse click,
then use colors and shading to emphasize differences. Graph types
include bar, line, scatter, X-Y, polar, pie, histogram, high-low,
contour, and 3D surfaces. Graphs may be in separate windows or placed on
the sheet with your data.
"AIS has been active in the Linux community for some time, and we already
provide a version of the full XESS product for Linux. We have received
many requests for a more cost-effective solution for the personal desktop
users of Linux," said Arthur Coston, president of AIS. "XessLite is a
strong response to these requests by providing a powerful commercial
product with pricing competitive with PC products."
XessLite is derived from the proven XESS technology and is upwardly
compatible. XessLite spreadsheets are a proper subset of XESS spreadsheets
and may be shared among users of the two systems. Licenses for XessLite
may be upgraded when needed to XESS licenses with full protection of the
user's investment in XessLite. XESS, the first real-time spreadsheet, is
available for most UNIX and OpenVMS systems through AIS and its partners
worldwide.
Demonstration versions of XessLite will be available soon on the Internet
through http://www.ais.com or at ftp.uu.net in /vendor/ais.
