mpeg_system version 1.1 is out and avialable from
spiderman.bu.edu in /pub/code/mpeg_system.
The sources have been upgraded to optimize playback
for a Pentium 90 under Linux. The v1.0 had only
been run on a 386/33 and was not properly set
up. If you have the horsepower, download the
source for v1.1 and try it. You may still
want to download the 1.0 player binaries file
as it comes with some different test streams then
the source code.
features:
- player for audio/video MPEG I system layer streams
- encoder to encode existing MPEG I audio and video
streams into a system layer stream
- support for up to 16 video streams and up to
32 stereo audio streams into one system layer
stream.( Gook luck on any INTEL based platform)
- The player works on SGI, Linux, HPUX , and SUNOS4.1.1(AMD)
requires:
- MOTIF (sorry, I know this is no fun for many Linux people)
- /dev/dsp (system_play can be compiled with -DNONE instead of -DLINUX
if you don't have an audio device.)
Give it a try if you can. I'd like to know if you can
get some reasonable playout your system. I've only
actually run the Linux code on the P90 and 386/33.
